We went on our first family camping trip to no other than Napa Valley!! I booked a yurt at the Bothe Napa Valley National Park - it even has a community pool, a creek and some easy hiking trail. Packing for the trip was quite the ordeal with Roger prepping everything that we need to lug on this trip.
The yurt was quite spacious with a Queen size bed frame with mat and two cots. We were in Yurt #4 for one night. First thing we did was check out the community pool which Emma loved but Lani did not. Lani loves playing in the water but not when it's super cold. We then went on a hike to check out the creek. Emma loved throwing rocks and Lani wanted to follow. Carrying Lani on the backpack was not easy, especially in the heat.
Roger then started the campfire to cook our delicious dinner of hot dog, sausage, sweet potatoes and s'mores for dessert. We played cards and decided to sleep early. The yurt next to us was having quite the reunion with lots of beer, food and people. Since noise travels, we had a hard time settling down. The kiddos have never slept in a room together so getting them to settle down took a while.
Although we were suppose to cook breakfast (Roger had this grand plan of making eggs with spinach and mushrooms!) but decided to pack up and find some breakfast instead. We had breakfast at Mary's Home Plate, a dive diner. After breakfast, we lined up for the day pass at the Calistoga Spa Hot Springs. They have four pools, most with natural warm mineral water.
The baby pool was perfect for Lani - not only was she not afraid but she loved it!! There was a water feature to the pool and the water height was only up to her chest. Emma had a great time as usual. Best $100 ever spent! We spent the morning there, had lunch at Calistoga downtown and headed home. We stopped by Joseph Phelps for some wine; everyone napped except for Roger and even had dinner with Mom and Dad.
Overall, a very positive and memorable experience!! Not sure if we're the camping kind of family but we will definitely go back to Calistoga!
